World's first iPod integration for Mercedes Benz.
19-12-2004
WORLD’S FIRST FULL IPOD INTEGRATION FOR MERCEDES BENZ AUTOMOBILES WITH FIBRE
OPTIC RADIO SYSTEM
Brings high quality audio and iPod control to the popular Mercedes Benz C-,
E-, S-, CL-, CLK-, SL-, SLK-, ML- and G-series models.
Hungary, Dec. 19-- Dension Audio Systems today announced that its ice>Link
Plus vehicle integration kit for the Apple iPod is now available for the
Mercedes Benz fibre optic “D2B” protocol.
“Connecting to the original equipment radio unit on a Mercedes Benz vehicle
is a technological challenge, because audio signals are sent in the form of
laser beams“ said Jozsef Lukacs, CTO of Dension Audio Systems, Ltd.
ice>Link Plus utilises the iPod as an auxiliary vehicle display surface
because the Mercedes-Benz radio system does not support CD-Text display.
"We experienced a high penetration of European luxury vehicles among iPod
owners, and we have served BMW and Audi owners since day one. Today, we’re
delighted to offer the ice>Link: Plus kit for Mercedes Benz vehicles.” said
Lee Harris, Director, Product Marketing.
ice>Link: Plus features include:
- Dual mode operation. Dension User Interface mode enables access to all iPod
playlists through the innovative Dension menu system. iPod User Interface mode
lets the user operate with the iPod control surface and maps car controls to
major iPod commands.
- Content display on the iPod. Instead of restricting display to the
limitations of car radios or requiring add-on display modules, ice>Link: Plus
displays ID3 information and the innovate Dension menu system on the Apple iPod.
- iPod mounting. The Dension active cradle securely holds and charges the
Apple iPod with dock connector. The innovative charge control lets users decide
when to charge the iPod.
- Future proof design. ice>Link Plus features firmware that can be upgraded
from the iPod itself. Furthermore, the universal design enables the interface to
be retained if the user changes vehicle with only a simple cable harness being
required to adapt to a new vehicle application. The modular design also enables
the users to change their iPod and retain the ice>Link: Plus interface.
The Mercedes Benz variant of ice>Link: Plus supports the popular Audio 10,
Audio 30 and COMAND 2.0 and 2.5 head units found in:
- 1999-2000 C-Class (W202)
- 2001-2004 C-Class (W203)
- 1999-2002 E-Class (W210)
- 2000-2002 S-Class (W220)
- 2000-2002 CL-Class (W215)
- 1998-2002 CLK-Class (W208)
- 2003-2004 CLK-Class (W209)
- 1999-2002 SL-Class (R129)
- 2003-2004 SL-Class (R230)
- 1999-2004 SLK-Class (R170)
- 1998-2004 A-Class (W168)
- 2001-2005 ML-Class (W163)
- 1999-2005 G-Class (W463)
and is now available for immediate shipping.
“Dension is devoting significant engineering resources to bring iPod
interfacing to fibre optic vehicles that are not yet supported” said Alfred
Barabas, CEO of Dension USA. We are expecting a solution by Q2/2005 for
the “MOST” system equipped late model E-Class (W211), late model S- and
CL-Class, the new SLK-Class (R171) and the mid-model updated 2005 C- and
SL-Class.
